hey folks, doing some upgrades on my computer getting a new graphics card, hard drive, and ect. one thing i was going to upgrade was my heatsink because occasionally when restarting computer i get a cpu fan speed low warning and its getting annoying (cpu never gets about 40c though) i have a cool master x6 elite cooler in here right now and it does a good job, but im thinking about overclocking and im worried if the fan isnt working properly that my temps will rise, speedfan doesnt control my cpu's fan so i cannot adjust it while gaming and id like to be able to. does anybody have any good suggestions on coolers that are not watercooled. thanks

if you want to go cheap the Coolermaster 212 EVO is a popular choice. Then for high end I'd recommend the Noctua nh-D14 or the Phanteks PH-TC14PE (I use this on my i7 4770k). http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/LGA-2011-i7-3960X-A... http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-heat-sink-hasw... - some articles you may want to look at. I can add many further details into the pros and cons of each fan or if you decide, closed loop cooling options as well. Just let me know if you need more to go on.

Also keep in mind in that first article I linked, the Noctua nh-D14 only out performed the phanteks cooler because they tested the SE2011 edition of the nh-D14(only for LGA 2011 CPU/mobos) which runs cooler. Basically just figure out your budget, your space in your case, and if color is an important factor.

wow got a lot more responses then i thought i would, budget wise less then 100, color no big deal, and size wise i have the cooler master haf x case so size wise i should be able to handle most coolers, i appreciate the help, also if you dont mind giving some more opinions i was lookin for a new graphics card around 300$ that would be best for gaming and multimonitor, i have 4 displays i use at once and a tv i hook up sometimes too. i would like to game across monitors in a large resolution (eyefinity or surround tech) i was lookin at a gtx 770 but what do you guys think?

although I use a GTX 680 that I picked up last year, for multi monitor setups the AMD radeon cards tend to have the upper hand, as they have more raw power and VRAM. So I recommend a variant of the R9 280X, the asus Direct CUII lines generally perform/cool rather well. But I am presonally not as read up on the new cards. I believe I read that TomsHardware suggested the GTX 770 for their $300 card. But in the past generally the higher the resolution and more monitors, the better the AMD cards out perform the Nvidia cards. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1018335&is=REG&Q=&A=details (Asus 280x) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CLuuuPjJ4bsCFVBgMgodHywA2Q&Item=N82E16814121770&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Desktop+Graphics+Cards-_-N82E16814121770&ef_id=UsS7NQAABVZ5ee83:20140103082314:s (Asus GTX 770) these are most likely not good prices for them, I just linked the first two examples I saw of them.

This can probably be adjusted in the bios, just change the warning minimum fanspeed to a lower speed, for instance when it says now warning under 600rpm and the fan starts with rpm of 550 adjust it to warning under 500rpm.

I would just keep this one and see how far you can go.It's a pretty decent cooler from what i've read.

The Phanteks PH-TC14PE cools better than the Noctua nh-D14, but it bigger and a few db louder. But the Phanteks also has many color options and generally looks better than the Noctua nh-D14. They both run about $75 USD.
