I've posted recently in regards to my troubles with my ASUS laptop. The hard drive crashed, and although I bought a new hard drive and replaced it, I was unable to use my laptop because of the OEM Windows 8 key. I have an ASUS Q500A, 15.6'', 750GB HD, 6GB RAM.

I called ASUS and Microsoft in the hope of retrieving it as I have bought it legally, but no luck. After much exasperation, I gave up and sent my computer to ASUS. Needless to say, I had no hope that they would fix it. The computer had some scratches and dents and I have also changed the LCD screen before.

I received the laptop today and was shocked upon opening it. At first I thought it was a brand new laptop. Checking the serial code verified it was not, but ASUS not only changed the hard drive, but the casing, keyboard, the bevel, mousepad and all other external components. The computer works great once again, and it looks brand new. Blemish free. And it was absolutely no cost. They even paid the shipping.

I am very satisfied with the experience and decided to post it here as a positive among the problems, which I've had a plethora of myself.

ASUS might have spent unnecessary money, as their policy indicates that they do not fix absolutely any damage caused by the owner such as scratches/dents. However, my next laptop will be purchased from them.

Sounds like Asus.

As a side note, next time that you have an OEM activation problem, try the "activate by phone" method. It will sometimes successfully activate OEM copies when the "over the internet" method fails.
