I've been using my custom-made Windows 8 computer for about a year now and have had a few problems with it. I recently reset my computer at the beginning of December and then, about a week ago, had to refresh it.
Now, a day or so after resetting my Windows Live password, Windows is requiring me to re-activate it again. I would attribute this to my truing to upgrade to 8.1, but I found that I'm still in normal Win. 8, not 8.1. Also, there's a new watermark in the lower-left corner of the desktop that says I'm in "Build 9200". I tried activating Windows with my product key, but it said "This product key is wrong. Please check it and try again." I am 100% sure that I haven't put the key in wrong. After looking around, I've found that this is the build number of the first Win. 8 release.
Half of my programs won't work (including most system programs like device manager, all Steam games, and task manager) because a message appears saying "This app can't run on your PC". All of these programs had owrked just the previous day. Also, I can't run the elevated command prompt because "The parameter is incorrect". I'm logged into admin account and there are no other accounts on the computer, I checked.
I have decent PC knowledge and I'm not a fool, so I've been searching around for the past few days (this started on Tuesday) for answers. So far, I've tried running slui.exe 3 and 4 (3 brings me to an activation screen and 4 takes me to a window that lets me either go to the activation screen or buy a new key) and resetting the product key using the command prompt from the install disk(slmgr.vbs /ipk [number], gave me "Error 0x80041010, run slui.exe 0x2a 0x841010." Tried that, nothing happened)
I will not buy another key from Microsoft because I have a key right here that I used to activate Windows on the original install and when I reset Windows. As a last resort, I'll reset Windows again.
I've already posted this on Windows' support forum, but all I got was a random guy telling me to try the slui.exe fix.
