Best GPU for under 200$?

That's my question :) try not to go over 200 though. Something like 190 give or take 10 is max. I was thinking either the GTX 660 or the R9 270. Suggestions please!

Solution
The 660 and 270 are both solid choices, but generally when deciding a card I look at what performance I want and not what amount of money I want to spend. If you're hoping to get max settings 60fps on a current generation game on a 1440p monitor, spending 200$ isn't going to cut it. If you want to run most MMOs on max quality, then either card might be enough.

The point I'm trying to get at is that we don't know how well you're going to like either card until we know what games you want to play and at what qualities and FPS you're expecting. If you're dying to play a game like Skyrim fully modded out, you likely need a card with 3GB of Vram and likely in the 250-300$ range and not the 200$ range.

Sorry, I'm just asking a few questions...

Well I play on 1920x1200. I currently have the GTX 570 and I've decided its time for an upgrade. The power consumption of the GTX 570 is pretty high and I'm looking for a little more powerful and quieter card hat consumes less power. Playing battlefield 4 or crisis 3 comfortably on max settings is something I'm looking for.

At that resolution you have to spend at least 400$ for max settings on a game like Crisis 3. GPUs don't come cheap. You might get high settings on BF4, but nowhere near max and playable FPS, or am I just a pessimist?

Ok I am patient and can save up some more cash. It will be better in the end. I think I'll get the 660 for now and then start saving up for a higher end card like the ones you guys suggested. Thanks!

You're looking at 40 FPS max with the 760, probably less with 1200p, that benchmark is 1050 resolution. I would think you'd get ~ 30-35 FPS with that card on max graphics. That actually is a lot better than I thought, sorry my perspective is kind of tainted since I'm running on a 7750 and upgrading straight into a R9 290.

If you like graphical quality over FPS and performance, which generally isn't the case in a shooter, then you will be fine at ultra. You might have to tone down the graphical quality, but you can still get good FPS on highest with any of those cards, just not ultra.

I can go down to high or medium. And if needed 1050p. It's not huge deal. I just want smooth, good looking gameplay where I don't have to completely minimize graphics settings. That being said...how would the 660 perform on high or medium settings in battlefield 4 and crysis 3?

49 FPS on high, 31 FPS on Ultra on 1050p. So that's not really terrible. What I would do is turn off anti aliasing but keep 1200 resolution. Anti Aliasing is in a sense forcing a higher resolution, while having a higher resolution monitor is naturally giving you better resolution. I prefer to have higher resolution but less AA, but that's me. You'll have to tweak your settings a lot though, but with the 660 it at least looks like you're going to be in the high quality range.

Something I didn't bring up earlier, is you also need to have a fairly decent CPU to pull off good frames, if your CPU is just as good as the 660, you should be fine, if it's lacking you might end up seeing worse FPS.
