This is what I've got so far. I've considered getting 16gb of ram because it isn't much more, but everything I've read says it isn't worth it. I already have Windows 8. Would you go with a different motherboard? How about the video card? Is it more than I need? I also see that I can get a 4770K (or the 3770K for $250 if I get it from Micro Center) for only about $130 more, is it worth it? Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'm going to be picking up the parts over a few month period if that makes any difference. I don't have a specific price point, just looking for the best value/longevity in this range.

Looks solid, but I would suggest getting 16GB RAM, because for rendering, multitasking and futureproofing, 8GB isn't going to get you anywhere.
Second, the Samsung 840PRO would be a better pick for your SSD as it has higher ratings and faster read and write speed. That GPU will serve you well, but I would go with the Radeon 280X, 290, or 290X. This is because when Mantle comes out for the Radeon cards, you will get a much higher frame rate in games that support it like Battlefield 4. The newer Core i7 CPUs are worth the extra money because they are more energy efficient. They are also using the newest technology available to consumers, and the i5 is already outdated, which means it would not be future proof. A 3770K or a 4770K would do just fine, but newer games are taking adavantage of more than 4 cores, so even the AMD FX8350 or the new FX 9000 series would be better...

All the best,
-Kai

Hello walleyealx

Like iDieAlot1986 said, I would also go 16GBs of RAM as in 6-12 Months time 8GBs of RAM just wont cut it in the PC Gaming world. As for the SSD, I would consider going with a SAMSUNG 840 EVO 250GB SSD as the cost per GB Ratio on that SSD is cheap therefore being a cheaper SSD & the performance is good on it as well. I'm a Nvidia fan so no problems with the GTX 770! :D

As for the CPU its only worth getting a 3770 or 4770k if you will be doing Heavy Load CPU tasks such as Video Rendering, Photo Editing, etc. That being said it also may be worth it for the future in terms of gaming.

Overall its a pretty good but consider tweaking it with the suggestions I have provided.

Hope this helped. :D

The Motherboard you would have to change to a Socket 1150 Motherboard with the chipset being Z87 to support the 4770k

Although walshy1009 and I agree about pretty much everything we've said here, I still believe you should get an AMD card, simply because when Mantle comes out, you will get more frames per second. NVIDEA is a great company with good performances, but they will fall in BF4 and other Mantle games compared to AMD. Plus the new AMD cards come with a free copy of BF4.

Mantle is not going to be a game changer.

The 770 will be a beast

nVidia will fail with bf4? Wut??? Im on ultra with 70-80 fps avg with my 760

I know Mantle won't be a game changer, but why take a risk with a card that isn't optimized for the game when they R9 series is?
I meant no offense, but I was just sharing my opinion with you..That's what's so great about Tomshardware, you can freely share your opinion. And I didn't say it would fail, I said it would fall. A 280X get also the same 70-80 FPS average, and that's without Mantle.

Kind regards,
-Kai

But the same point can be made for games that are optimized for Nvidia. Also at this moment you get ACIV Black Flag, Splinter Cell Blacklist and Batman Arkham Origins with a GTX770 or better, so that cancels out the BF4 copy. There is no way any $300 dollar card is a bad choice right now. They will all run games well and one does better in this game, the other does better in that game.

Nvidia fails in BF4? BF4 fails itself with all it's bugs and stuff. I'm getting an EVGA GTX 770 SC and I can say from testing a 770 out earlier before purchasing the 770 that it is a beast. You cannot go wrong with NVIDIA.

Plus, AMD is all buddy buddy with next gen consoles with their graphics cards and processors being in both consoles so who's to say that AMD maybe lowering the bar across the board?

I think it's all personal preference. For instance, I like AMD cards because they have get very stable performance, and are quite cheap. I like Nvidia because they have amazing performance. I have never owned a GTX card, so I don't have experience with them. And I said it will fall, not fail. But for me, I personally only play Battlefield games, so for me AMD is the way to go. For you guys who like a variety of games, then get Nvidia, more power to you. ;)

Good luck,
-Kai

Thanks for the help so far. I can't really find anything else in the price/power range of the GTX770 so I think I'm going to stick with that. Below is my current projected build after it has been trimmed a bit.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($129.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($63.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport XT 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($63.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($82.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($329.99 @ NCIX US)
Wireless Network Adapter: Rosewill RNX-N250PCe 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($15.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Zalman Z11 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ Microcenter)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($54.99 @ Microcenter)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($19.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1106.86

Final question is: Do you guys think it's worth the extra $80 for the 4770? I will mostly do gaming, but I will do some light video editing and I tend to have like 30 tabs open in chrome at all times.

THANKS!

Looking back at my previous posts, there really is no need in getting the 4770K, because the main difference is HyperThreading, and not very many applications use it.

Also, I would suggest getting the AMD-FX 8350 because it has 8-Cores, and BF4 uses more than 8-Cores.

All the best,
-Kai
