i am trying to build a PC to do some light to moderate gaming along with basic usage for a budget of 300 and under any ideas on where to start i need the whole thing except hard drives. i went to PC parts picker and started there but sadly got lost among all the parts. thank you for your help.

Solution
for $300 JUST for a case, mobo, psu, cpu and ram is much more reasonable

i am also looking at i would like a processor that is 4-6 cores and ram capabilities of 16-32 GB i have also a video card so i don't need that but i need a: case, mother board, processor, heat sink and fan, optical drive, ram, and lastly a power supply. on the case i would like a dual removable panel case

whole thing?

meaning the tower (minus hdd), monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers and operating system?

it might be (barely) possible to give you an integrated video system for that (if you already have an os and everything else but the tower) however if you need everything... not sure its possible.

Why would you want a ram cap of 16 - 32 gig? A guy was on here last month with 5 instances of bioshock ultimate open, a dozen other things inc itunes and video's open and it only came to 6 gig.
Bit overkill, eh?

Serious reply here;
I actually do still have a sinclair spectrum +3
128 k with the 3.5 inch built in floppy (ploppy?) drive,
and it has done about 10 hours of work. There are games disks inc Garfield and Slaine (2000AD)
The poster can buy that off me for $175 plus u.k. post.
pOCKET MONEY LEFT OVER!

i dont want to use all of the ram that it can have. i want expansion room but, i have an os, hdd, graphics card, already. i just want 4-6 gig ram to start with, i need a decent processor, case, motherboard and a decent power supply that would handle 16-32 gigs of ram when i can afford more ram i am also looking into design software and automotive diagnostic applications

i will look it over but i was completely lost when it came to getting things that were compatible

well an aftermarket heatsink is better for sure but unless you want to o/c its not really required. since thats not an o/c board its not really needed.

there is a definite gain by going with 2 sticks over 1 (for dual channel mode) which is why iwent that way. there wouldnt be any real gain going 4x2gb. i left two open for going 2x4gb + 2x4gb in the future for 16 total.

so i got my pc built i went with an msi overclockable motherboard but my processor temps are 60 C. i am worried about if i am getting it cool enough or if i need to get an aftermarket cooler i also have not overclocked anything

60c at idle?
60c at load (gaming)?
60c at max load (benchmarking)?

if that number is at max load then its within tolerances but i'd prefer it a bit lower.

if its at load then i'd definitely get some sort of cpu cooler so you dont go over recommended temps.

if its at idle or close to it then i would say that you have the heatsink seated wrong and/or the thermal paste is applied wrong. idle i could see 35-40 as a temp but definitely not 60.

the suggested temp for the fx-6300 is 60c and under. its advised to not go over 70c. i think the max temperature before shutdown is 90c (but you definitely dont want to go that far!)

depending on what the 60c was measured at... and if you need a cooler... i'd suggest a hyper 212+ or hyper 212evo (whichever is cheaper where you are. if its only $1-2 difference get the evo instead. of course this is if its a load temp and not an idle temp which i'd say you have your current cooler seated wrong... you werent specific.
