How to buy a high performance quiet fan - 101

Cougar fans, the one you said had no box specifications, are some of the best fans you can get on the market.

Anyway, if one were to follow the specifications as listed on the box, this would be acceptable, but box specifications often are not an accurate portrayal of real-world performance. http://martinsliquidlab.org/2013/02/18/why-static-pressure-max-flow-specs-are-poor-measures-of-fan-performance/ A good broad example of this is the concept of Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF). Companies will often try to sell this as a way of telling the lifespan of a product, when the figures announced can be arrived at by just about any standard. It's kind of scary.

I think there was a good job at explaining what all the differences in specifications were, but I just wanted to point out that even box specifications are apart of the whole marketing spiel.

Cooler Master fans are the best and their specs on the back of the box is not marketing BS. I used Cooler Master fans since 2007 and none of them went down yet. I haVE 120MM 92 cfm WITH 19 DBA Cooler Master on my CPU Venomous Heatsink by Thermalright and I consider that 120mm fan is the best out of their - outstanding(THE BEST to be correct) flow and not noisy. If company does not put specs - usually fan is noisy or low flow.

Thanks for watching.

That's a whole lot of assertion, right there, conveniently averting the point of my post.

I do not want to start a debate. I get it that I may have stepped on some toes, but other consumers out there deserve to know that what you see is not necessarily what you get - and there are reasons behind that.

That is why I don't suggest to buy Cougar. Cooler Master don`t sell fans with specs that don't match those specs on the back of the box. Usually 80% of companies put the correct specs due to regulations. Maybe some crappy brands put fake specs, but most of great brands do not lie about the specs because there are some regulations out of there.
