Windows 8 vs Windows XP? Which is better?

better? that term is relative.

generally every other version of windows blows...

win95 bad
win98 better
win2k bad
winxp good
win vista bad
win7 good
win8 bad (win 8.1 crappy useless fix which does almost nothing)

get where i'm going?

i'd say go with windows 7 if you can.

if you only have a choice between 8 or xp i'd go with 8 if its a newer system since xp has a lack of support. however in terms of which was the nicest OS... xp was good for its time but is now outdated and 7 would be a good newer replacement. or windows 9 whenever it comes out perhaps.

Go with Windows 8 but install a program that gives you back boot-to-the-desktop and a real Start button, like Start8 ($4.99) or ClassicShell.net. Then it looks and behaves like Windows 7 but you have the latest and greatest (more secure). Since Microsoft will drop all support for XP in April, I would not use it. Not to mention it's too freakin' old, slower, and doesn't multi-task as well as Windows 7 or 8.

Hello Vadamo.

With my upcoming build I'm going Windows 7. Mainly because that all your drivers will be supported and its a stable operating system for gaming & video rendering (At least for me)

Hoped this helped.

Its actually fast on alot of systems due to its low requirements, tested it on a Intel Celeron 585 Single Core and the multitasking is great. what is bad about dropped support? I have seen a windows 2000 run fine with no support so whats the bid deal?

I would suggest Windows 7, it is the most reliable operating system as of now, but in the future windows 8 might become more favorable. After the release of windows 7 many people were cynical, now its the most favored. Windows 8 might be the same way in the future, but as of now i would definitely suggest windows 7.
