I have One 9-pin front panel connector header ( power button, reset button, power LED, and HDD LED). I've seen tutorial vids on how to connect front panel connecters and all of them are these individual two pin connectors, each with their own function. But i looked at the front panel connector that I have and it's just this one single connector that also fits into the new mobo, but the front panel connector isn't labeled. im afraid the negative and positives are on the wrong side and etc. help

It should be labeled. In really fine print, you should find it under the header at the very edge of the board. When I say fine print, I mean really fine, and all the way at the edge. It's practically invisible. Also, I'm pretty sure that all front panels are the same, so the following diagram should work assuming you can't find the fine print:

If you're looking at your board such that the front panel header is all the way at the bottom and the CPU near the top, then the following image should have 1-2 correlate as the left end of the front panel header, and 9 correlate to the right end of the header.

Check your mobo manual.

And i have a HP Pavilion a6724c computer which came out 6 years ago. I'm upgrading the psu, mobo, ram and cpu. I'm keeping everything else including the harddrive so this is old 9 pin connector to a newer mobo. Will it still be fine?

Just closely checked. It's not labeled at all. It has one arrow pointing down on the same side of the connector that has no pin

Well try using the diagram I posted or look at your motherboard's manual (the latter option is probably better). As for the upgrade, it should be fine, but expect to wipe that HDD and reinstall your OS (obviously backup your important files somewhere first). You probably need to wipe your HDD due to driver conflicts and due to possible restrictions with your OS if it doesn't recognize the new motherboard which can happen with OEM copies, though I'm not too sure on that last part.

HP has its own special 9-pin front panel connector that is different from the front panel header of a retail box motherboard.

You should examine the new motherboard manual for its front panel header wiring diagram. You may need to make your own wiring harness.

Polarized connectors have a little arrow or a plus sign by the positive wire.
