Hi,

I currently have an i5-3570k and the gtx 670 power edition. I was thinking of getting a 2nd monitor but i know that the i5s arent as good at multitasking as i7s. Would there be any negative affects or noticeable changes to current gaming if i add a monitor? I dont really want to have stuttering or anything like that. 2nd monitor would be doingstatic stuff like having chats and browsers open while first monitor has the games open. Not sure if that makes a difference when one is working hard and other is doing nothing.

I would really appreciate any insights people might have from past experience.

Thanks

SOME games have issue with the second monitor being in use, but VERY few and most of them that do have problems can easily be fixed with a setting change(like setting to windowed borderless gaming).

Go for it, it will work just fine.
You will not be able to game across 2 monitors.

Think of where the crosshair would be in a first person shooter on 2 monitors. :)

So in other words the second monitor can be used for monitoring your system, browsing the interwebs and movies, that sort of thing. None of this will effect your gaming performance.

EDIT : Ensure that at least one monitor is digital (HDMI, DVI), you can not run 2 analog (VGA) monitors on one card.

Yeah i already said what the 2nd monitor would be for :p I was just wondering if this could all cause stuttering or any bad effects to my primary monitor whiule gaming or if my pc should be able to multitask well enough.

I use my dedicated GPU for my main monitor, and my integraded GPU on my CPU for my other monitor which is more than sufficient for browsers, TS, videos etc. Go for it, you shouldn't have any problems, you just have to figure out (or research) how to change the settings in the BIOS or through proper cables and settings.

Just use the dedicated for both? LOL the way you do it is very convoluted.

Oh trust me it is, it required necessary tinkering that could or could not have caused an epic fail. [strike]Both monitors at the time used HDMI I think and my GPU only had one slot[/strike]. My brother stole my monitor's DVI-D cable and gave me a blue one which could only be plugged into my motherboard. [strike]I should test if all I have to do is plug in the HDMI and DVI-D[/strike]. That was ridiculously easy. Don't listen to anything I said previously, hooking them both up to the GPU is so much easier.
