If i buy a gpu with an APU then am i being foolish? I want to play games like battlefield 4 for short intervals of time.

I would probably recommend looking at Tom's Best Gaming CPU's for the Money articles. If your are planning on using a discreet graphics card I would lean towards the FX line. APUs are good for integrated graphics or even linking with a low-end graphics card. You could still game with an APU/GPU and over clock the CPU on the APU which I have seen done for budget computers. Currently there are no 6 or 8 core APUs which AMD will hopefully release in the future.

The power of the graphics card you add to an APU will need to be approximately the same speed and brand in order to run them as a dual-graphics card. Hope this helps.
It will work, but if ur buying both new at the same time it is pointless. If ur buying a gpu thats stronger than the igpu of the apu, then might as well go am3+ and a fx 6300. Most go for the apu for a budget gaming pc, with room to add later, as the igpu is good enough to last for a while and the cpu is good enough to add a gpu later but a upfront total purchase of all parts going with an apu isnt the best option.

but will i be able to use the power of both the IGPU and the GPU?

What GPU will you be using? You can hybrid crossfire your iGPU with a discrete GPU as long as it is a 6670 or lower. Pretty pointless actually, so the best option is to go with a good CPU and a discrete graphics card. BUT you can also go with the A10 because the iGPU is good enought to play games at medium to low settings depending on your resolution and that could give you time to save for a really good GPU wich you can add to your system in the future.

no, with most high to mid end gpus they will not work with the igpu and will not hyrbrid crossfire either. Hybrid crossfire only works with lower end cards and i think a 7750 is max and the benefits are not great. If buying a new system go with a better cpu and dedicated gpu or apu only. If u want to use the apu in low power situations or when ur not taxing the dedicated gpu its pointless, as under idle or low use the cpu and gpu will either downclock or something and use less power and produce less heat. Under idle many gpus can use under 10watts, could be less could be more all situational. With power profiles and power savings features on cpus many drop the voltage and clock and can normally lower the cpus tdp under idle.

basically the igpu will disable when a nvidia card is put into the system or anything higher than a 7750, well not disabled but will not hybrid crossfire with the card to gain extra gpu power.

I see no situation where wanting a dedicated gpu and the apu at the same time when not using them for hybrid crossfire. Most normally go with one or the other. Personally i see no gain with hyrbrid crossfire, but i dont and havent ran it at all but seems like a waste as u can get a faster gpu for only slightly a few more dollars.
