Why do some of my audio devices produce a static sound?

My front audio jack whines and clicks so I assumed it was the case. I, recently, gor a speaker system and connected it to the back. Now that is making the same sounds as the front jack but it is only occasional. I have a USB headset that I can connect to any port with no problems, but when I use my cardioid mic, you can occasionally hear the same sounds regardless of which port I use. I am considering buying a new case, but don't want to replace it only to find the problem was another part.

Keep in mind, I am having problems with audio jacks AND USB devices.

You're more likely to hear static from the front of the case than the back due to the cord being passed from the back of the pc to the front picking up sounds on the way.

If plugging it from the back still gives you a static sound then it'd most likely be interference on your motherboard. Purchasing a cheap $20 sound card would do the trick.

So, would you say the only way to resolve the USB device problems is to get a new mobo?
