My power Supply keeps buzzing

Hey guys,

I recently built a gaming PC a few weeks back and every time I turn the PC on I get a buzzing sound inside. I checked to see which component it came from and the buzzing came from the power supply. I searched everywhere on the forum to resolve the problem but it still persists. It used to stop buzzing when I put the power options to power save but now that doesn't even work. It sometimes stops for a few second but then continues again. Please Help!!

may be the cooling fan on the PSU is doing that vibratory noise.... which PSU you have..?

Corsair CX 550W PSU, this doesn't happen on my other PC though?

is it only buzzing in a single system and not doing on other one. if yes so check that the PSU fits well in your case .. it may be not properly fitted in your case so if the work load increases so fan speed also increases which creates vibration .

I've tried it on another PC and problem is still there. Its been like that from the start. I checked and Thethe psu is properly fitted and everything is secure but still buzzing.

take the PSU out from the case and then plug it to your system then check if it is still buzzing outside or not.... that will confirm the cause

Still buzzing. I'm no expert but is it something to do with the coil in the power supply?

it is not the coil cause you said that this PSU is working well in other system . . is the other system specs is less then the one in which it is buzzing

no i said the problem was still there. So basically it buzzes on both computers. The other PC specs are much less as well. Athlon 64 x2 3.00ghz, 4gb ram

CX series PSU's by Corsair are budget power supplies not meant for serious gaming setups.The use cheap capacitors , I would replace it with an XFX 550W.

IF the power supply is New and it buzzes, simply return it for a replacement under warranty, it's defective......

No point in you worrying about it or trying to fix it.......

- could be a bad fan...
- could be coil/inductor "whine"...

Either way, its broke, send it back..... (I've got two Corsair CX600's in small systems, the work perfectly fine.... Yeah TX, AX, and HX series from Corsair are better but, can't always have the best.)

so it can be doing this cause of high load maybe . . if it is in warranty . send it back and if not so put it in a lower spec system and buy yourself a new one . corsair rm650 or tx series . . to be frank .....

Thanks for the answers guys. What power supplies do you recommend for my system. I don't have a lot of money now so my budget is only $90-100. I may get sli gtx 670s in the near future though.

corsair rm 650w is enough for you and don't go for cx series cause it is not reliable that much . . its performance and durability is still a question . . so go for rm650
