I've done some research but I'm not sure. I'm looking for an i7 4 or 6 core.....overclockable or with a good default clock rate (at least 3.5GHz) whaddya think?

Solution
For around that price? You could get a i7-4770 (not the k version)

What is your intention to use this PC for?

If it's gaming, you could get an i5-4670k and overclock to your heart's content.

It's for gaming, yeah. I'm currently using an AMD Fx-8120 with 4 cores running @4.2GHz but it causes many lag spikes....it's not great for gaming, I'm pretty sure it's a rendering CPU as most games don't work with 8 cores anyway.
But....yeah, I think I'll look into a i5-4670k, thanks :)

It's not great for gaming because it's bulldozer architecture which is worse than the Phenom's it was intended to replace. You could get very good performance out of an 8320/8350. The i5 4670k would be a great choice but you'd need a new motherboard and a new copy of windows too if yours is OEM. The performance difference between an 8320/8350 and an i5 4670k is not worth that cost.

Soooooo......should I sell and upgrade to an 8350? And overclock that?

That depends. What's your current motherboard model?

If you have a good motherboard that would support a 8320, go with that. The 8320 with a good overclock (requires a good CPU cooler; CM Hyper 212 EVO seems to be popular) will match the performance of an i5 in most cases. The i5 and 8320 trade blows in a lot, and a lot of debate from both sides usually arises as to which is better (I personally favor the i5). But if you have the motherboard to support it, 990 chipset would be great, then it's not worth the money to switch to an i5. If you have to replace the motherboard to support the 8320, then I would switch to the i5.

Was about to say the same thing. Even a mid-high end 970 is fine for the 8320/8350. I agree though, if he needs to get a new motherboard then it's worth going the i5 route if gaming is the main priority.

My current mo-bo is an Asus M5a78L. It should support it. I also have a great coolermaster fan for overclocking.

I wouldn't recommend overclocking on that motherboard. The VRM design isn't very good and the power phase is only 4+1.
