R9 280X FPS issues! HELP!

Hi, i recently upgraded my graphics card from the HD 6870 to the R9 280X, i have seen that there is a difference but im not entirely sure that im getting what im meant to be getting in terms of FPS. in battlefield 4 i start off at 60 FPS and then as i get closer to where all the action is it drops to as low as 38 making it hard to play sometimes. i overclocked my Cpu and did see a considerable difference with the smoothness but i still get drops. In far cry 3 i also get drops when looking in a certain direction.
Specs:
AMD Phenom 965BE @4.1
Asus R9 280X
8GB RAM
600W FPS PSU
Corsair H60 water cooler
Asus M5A99X motherboard

Your CPU is bottlenecking your 280x

Buy ur self Fx 6300... if u can afford 8350 .. do it ! it will work on that system ..... who plays bf4 with AMD Phenom .....

That's what iv been thinking but when i record my CPU usage whilst playing it never seems to hit 100% and stays around 85%, maybe the CPU just isnt good enough?

It is not good enough, you will never see CPU usage at 100% even during a bottelneck, Get a better cpu and overclock that 280x, im sure you will get a much better experience

I was looking into buying the FX-8350 and was about to purchase it today but had some money problems. im just trying to make sure that the FX-8350 will be worth the upgrade and that it is nothing else that is causing the FPS drops!

Save some money and buy the 8320. The 8350 isn't worth the extra 40 considering you already know how to overclock. Simply overclock the 8320.

If money is a problem, go 8320 and bump it to an 8350's speed or more since you have a water cooler

Ok thanks iv been looking into this and some people have said the phenom is good enough where as others have said it is not. At this moment i don't really want to overclock my GPU as i dont really know how and i dont think my PSU can handle it.

Your PSU will be fine for overclocking, and overclocking a GPU is 100x easier then a CPU, It all done by easy software, Nearly no risk at all when not touching voltage aswel !!!, You will see considerable gains if you ever decide to, Goodluck
