Hi, when i built my new PC today i noticed that when i plugged in my GPU (XFX 7970) my power supply (XFX 550w core edition) it cut out! I did notice when inserting the 8 pin power connector it got stuck half way and would not go any further., then cut out after pushing it a little bit. Does anyone have any tips for me that i could try or are the parts faulty.

Thanks, Brad

These are the specs:
AMD FX 8320
XFX 7870 2GB
XFX 550w Core Edition
1TB Seagate HDD
MSI 970A-G43 MOBO
4GB DDR3 RAM

First off, I do hope this all happened when it was off.

Secondly, it sounds like you are plugging the 8pin ATX 12V connector into the video card rather then the 6+2 or 8pin PCIe connector that should go there. They are keyed differently so that could explain why you can't plug it in all the way.

I second this. And OP, does the PSU not do anything anymore? Or works without GPU? All you've told us is it cut out, need to more lol
