New build with GTX 760, no display

Hi guys,

So I'm just finished my new build. Everything was working fine (i.e. windows was installed, connected to internet etc) but I couldn't see my graphics card (gtx 760). First I realised that I had forgotten to connect the power supply into it. So I shut down, did that. Still nothing. So I went into the BIOS and enabled PCI devices.

Now however there's no display, at all. I can't get into the BIOS, even with the gpu removed. The HDMI and monitor are fine, I tested them with a laptop. I don't have a DVI cable or any other video cables around so I haven't been able to test with any of them. I'm just about to try removing the battery from the mobo to reset the BIOS to default.

Any advice?

My build is

Asrock extreme3 z87 motherboard
haswell intel i5
cosair vengence 8GB ram
Asus GTX 760 gpu
Corsair CX750m power supply
crucial 240gb SSD.

Solution
Yeah, I'm starting to think of a bad Motherboard. I'm just trying to think of everything I can that doesn't cost money or time lol Might also try to short the jumper to get it to reset too, should be in the manual what pins.
If it's a new build, pulling the CMOS battery won't hurt you at all lol Do that, make sure you have monitor output, then turn off, plug in the card, and try again. When you get to the desktop, go to NVIDIA's website and download the drivers.

If this doesn't work, you can set the motherboard to boot into the CD drive and get the GPU driver installed that way, but would need to update your drivers as soon as possible.

Okay I tried the battery but it's still not booting. Installing the drivers can be something to worry about after the PC is actually outputting video :/

Is there a way to check that the computer is actually booting, and not just turning on the fans and lights when I hit the power switch. The lights on the keyboard aren't coming on, but the mouse is...

Yes, but installing the drivers first might help it see the card. It was just a thought.

Anyway, yes. Your motherboard should have a speaker, or you should have installed a speaker, which would POST after power on. This beep sequence would tell you if/what the problem is

Yeah I'm guessing no speaker. I just did some googling and found people saying about how awful asrock are which has me worried I've managed to brick the board just a few hours after the build :(

I'll try the other PCIe slot now, meant to do that a while ago actually. But I can't figure out why there isn't video output when I remove the GPU.

Do you know of any way to check if the computer is actually booting, and not just turning on the fans and lights? I'm also concerned why the lights aren't coming on the keyboard.

Yeah the computer was unplugged when I took out the battery. And even when I've removed the GPU it won't output video. I'm starting to think it's not a video problem but actually a booting problem

Okay solved. Turned out the motherboard had a separate pair of pins I had to short to restore the BIOS to default. Once I did that it was all good! Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again. If it does I'll just contact the maker.
