Hi, I am a complete n00b when it comes to building computers. I wanted to build a gaming entertainment rig for around $1000 bucks, but have some space for wiggle room. I am really scared about trying to figure it out myself and have bottlenecks anywhere. I also figured this could be a fun project for me and my dad to do together since he falls apart and can no longer throw a football around with me. He also says I should probably wait a month (until February) because prices usually drop around then. I was hoping a couple of you geniuses would be kind enough to list some of the builds you would make on that type of budgets. Thanks.

Don't really plan on overclocking, I would like to get my mileage out of this thing and have it last for as long as possible.

Even though I have intel and GTX combo in my PC, I would suggest going with AMD as their prices are much more fair. PC part picker is a great start though! If you are worried about putting together your 1st PC, I'd reccomned watching newegg's tutorial on how to do it.

I actually really like that first build you posted. Case price isn't really an issue but that one doesn't look that aesthetically pleasing to me.

well you can pick any case that you want. and if you go with the first build i listed. then you have the option to overclock. even though you said your not interested the options there...maybe later on you decide to do it.

I also heard there are new graphics cards coming out in a few weeks, so would you suggest waiting a few weeks before buying?

waiting is up to you. i can tell though that you will not be disappointed with the 770 i recommended. i have the 760 and i was even surprised at how well it performed. there both fast cards. personally i wouldnt have the paitence to wait but if you feel you can then go ahead

Would a cooling unit be a good idea? Or is that completely unnecessary? Also, if so what would you suggest? Also would getting 16gb of memory be useful or a waste? I recently won some money at a casino so the budget has some more room to expand.

a cooling unit for what your graphics card? if you dont plan to overclock it then stock cooling gets the job done same with your cpu. if you do not plan on overclocking your proccesor then you do not need an aftermarket cooler. an aftermarket cooler will keep your system quieter but not needed.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... good after market cooler

as for 16 gigs of ram in a budget gaming computer no definitley not needed. you could get away with 4 gigs at lowest but 8 would be a more then comfortable amount. of course more never hurts.

You are going to sacrifice performance going with those expensive cases and staying in budget.

he said he won some casino money so he has a little more to spend. so either of those cases are a good choice. its just up to wich you like better. there both large cases. personally like the look of that cooler master more. but up to you.

OK built my system, seems to be working pretty well so far, except I am not able to find where/how to update the SM Bus controller driver. I also need to buy another sata cable I believe to attach my 1tb hard drive since the optical drive and ssd drive take up the two it came with. Does anyone know where to download the driver for the sm bus controller with my configuration? Sorry for the bother, thanks for the help!

Ya solved the sm bus controller problem. Picked up a sata cable but it's not reading. I have 2 hard drivers powered by 1 cord out of the psu, which I hope isn't a problem. I'll try reseeding once my video card gets here
