Problem:

Every time I boot my Notebook Windows freezes for 5-20 minutes.
The booting process and Login works without a Problem. But when I start the first program Windows and the program freezes. It does not matter which program I start (VLC, Internet Explorer, Thunderbird, Windows Picture Viewer, Control Panel) everything stops. Installations stop, the Task bar does not function, I cannot go to the Windows start Screen, everything freezes. After 5-20 minutes all things I have clicked on start at the same time.
After the first freeze there are no further Problems. Only when I restart the Problem occurs again.

Interestingly, when I start Windows out of Energy saving mode, the Problem does not occur. The Problem does also not occur in safe mode.

Summary:
1) Booting Windows - no Problem
2) Logging in - no Problem
3) starting first program - 5-20 minutes freeze
4) after the freeze - no Problem

What have I tried?

1) I reset my Notebook to factory Settings for 3 time within the last month
2) I performed a complete Virus scan
3) I have tried different Browsers and anti Virus Software (I first thought that Software caused the Problem)
4) I have tried different operating Systems: Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, Windows 8.1
5) I reset my BIOS Settings
6) I uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage Technology
7) I performed a Windows disk error check twice
8) I defragmented my partitions
9) I updated Sound and graphic Drivers
10) I booted in safe mode and uninstalled Sound Drivers
11) I disabled / enabled programs using msconfig and CCleaner
12) I started the Task Manager right after the Login to see if a program causes the freeze. All running applications become "inactive" and then the Task Manager freezes, too.

What does Google say?

1) Problems with the power supply of the graphic Card
2) Problems with the power supply of the Sound Card
3) Problems with HDD
4) Problems with Drivers
5) Problems with BIOS
6) ???

How can you help me?

I have already contacted the manufacturer of my Notebook and they want me to send it in. Unfortunately, it will take a Minimum of 14 days for them to check my Notebook plus shipping days. Therefore, I do want to try everything possible to fix the Problem myself. Since I ran out of Options what to do I am seeking for help.
So, what are possible causes of my Problem? Have you had or heard of similar Problems?
How can I fix it?

Here are my notebook's specifications (if you Need further Information, please let me know):

Thanks ahead for all your help !

do you have a solid state drive? if the system freezes but then starts working after 5 mins it could be a drive isssue.
I would look in event viewer for event from your disk subsystem Something indicating that the disk has errors or is taking too long (over 30 seconds)
and windows is resetting the device. it can also be related to a class of hardware issues where a connection had broken free from its pad on the circuit board. it starts working again when the chip heats up and the connection is remade because of thermal expansion. kind of what you get if you unplug a device while using it and plug another in its place. it can really confuse the OS, it has to wait to cancel pending actions, then and continue from there, pretty screwy results.

Note: if it is a thermal issue, and you send the machine back tell them it only happens when the machine is cold
otherwise they think you are crazy and just tell you it is fixed and send the machine back to you

hey johnbl,

thank you very much for your fast reply.
I don't have a SSD. I do not even have an USB plugged in while booting but it still happens.
And thanks for the hint that it could be a thermal issue. I do not think that this is it, because when I reboot the freeze also occurs. And therefore it is very unlikely that it causes the problems. But I will take that into consideration.

Is there anything I can do at the moment to find what causes the problem?
I mean if a driver or software is causing the problem how do I find out?

-are you doing a local logon or a internet verified logon? (try a local machine logon)

if your system does this on a second warm boot then it would not be the hardware issue i described.
see if the problem still occurs while booting into safe mode.
if safe mode is ok, then I would disable all startup programs, if it still occurs, i would create another local account on that machine and see if the problem occurs when you logon with that account.

depending on the results i would look for tasks in the tasks scheduler that are set to go off at logon.
I would also look at what services have a delayed startup.

you might also want to check for corrupt OS files using
sfc.exe /scannow
