I messed up and put my old hard drive in my new build without backing it up, and I can't put it back in the old build, as I already took it all apart. I got the failed blue screen. Is there ANY WAY of keeping all my data without having to put it back in my old build? I've heard about using it as slave, but i'm not sure if that is an optin for me. thank you. and I do hava a SATA.

Yes disconnect the old hdd put in a new one, install windows and install the old hdd as a second hdd windows will see it simple as a drive and you can pull all your data off it, or if you prefer there are external cases you can buy for hdd to make it an external usb hdd and it will simple read it as an external drive and you can pull your data off. If you don't have the ability to get a second hard drive, there is software you can install on to a usb drive (like linux) that will run an OS from the usb allow you to transfer the data to a back-up device.

If you wish to use the old as a main still. yes or you can just leave it as a second and get additional storage.

You can have both in at the same time just make sure you have them configured correctly by cable and in the bios load an OS of your choice on the new HDD and the second HDD will be accessible from the new one. I general recommend waiting to put the second one in so you don't accidentally format the old HDD while install the OS on the new HDD
