I am new to PC gaming so i have many question. would you please help me make a decision where to buy Company of heroes 2. the online website of the game producer offers it for somewhere around 34euros whereas on ebay there are some sellers who are selling "steam" key for as low as 14euros.
the question is:

1: do you have any experience of buying such a key on ebay. is it a working key or just a duplicate of an already sold key.

2: is it legal , i mean i dont know what is "steam" and how come their key is so cheap or is there a catch , like the game might be some version with limited uses or something like that...!

3: if i buy a key (from producer or from "steam" or from ebay) is it possible to make a cd with it. i mean how can i use it for single person play . do i have always to play it on their gaming area or i can use it on my pc as stand alone too in a single player mode. can i play it offline. can i play it on my home network.

4: if i change my pc, can i still reinstall on the new pc with the same key.

so , there are so many questions :), i would be grateful if someone shares his/her knowledge with me.

best regards

Like eadlef said, Steam is a client/storefront from Valve that sells PC games. It's a popular option for PC gamers because they run frequent sales, put all your games in one place, and have a host of community features.

1) Again, like eadlef said, refrain from buying CD keys on eBay or any other person online. Go to www.steampowered.com and you can find Company of Heroes 2 there and buy it, download Steam, and download your game through the client.

2)Yea, Steam is legal. As for why the key you saw online is cheap, there are a host of reasons (they could've gotten it free as a promo, had extras, etc.). But it's best to buy directly from Steam as to not get scammed.

3)You can backup your games to a CD, DVD, or a removable drive, and...

Steam is an online game library. It's 100% legal. Everything you purchase on Steam is saved in the cloud, so for instance if you buy Company of Heroes 2 on Steam you will be able to log on Steam on another computer and download it (legally) from the client. However, do not buy it from eBay. Buy it directly from Steam. Steam is a great service and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is going to play games on their computer.

3)You can backup your games to a CD, DVD, or a removable drive, and then reinstall them through Steam later if anything happens to your computer. This way you don't have to wait to redownload the whole game again. Depending on how Company of Heroes 2 works, you may need to connect to SEGA's servers first to verify you actually own the game, and then can play offline. For Steam, you have to connect to the internet at least once to verify your game and then you can put Steam into Offline mode and play offline. Again, this all depends on the game in question. I'm not familiar with Company of Heroes 2, but in CoH 1, you could play offline. Sometimes when Steam is in offline mode and a game requires you to be online, you'll get a message saying you have to go online with Steam or the game just won't launch.

4) Yes, if you change you PC, you just redownload Steam, login with your account info, and your game will be there for redownload or you can backup using the CD/DVD/flash drive method.

Hope that helps you. :wahoo:
