so my problem is : I have a Synology NAS , the array crashed (i think), I dont want to lose my data on it.

How can I rebuild the array without formating?
Or if I can't do it, how can I save my data from it, it has ext3 (linux RAID) 2 x 1 TB HDD

I have tried so many softwares, many of them gave me an error message.

Oh that's tough, raid 0 is the least safe because it only stripes data. You would have to be in Raid 5 or 10 to restore your other drives. Have you read the article on returning your harddrive for a professional retrieval? The success rate is very high but very expensive! Good luck!

With raid 0 the data is gone. Raid ) stripes the data across 2 drives. 1 bit to the first, and the second bit to the second. Without both drives, there is no data.

Even with raid you still have to have a backup plan, and execute it.

ANONYMUS1 : , you mean this one? http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=160&t=513... <-- No excately this , but i installed ubuntu unfrtunately when i had to choose between the filesystem i chose ext4, do i have to reinstall ext3?. Im not so good in doing such things, I may try it but my first aim is to just REBUILD the array, if i can do it somehow without recovering the data and formate those HDDs. But if there is no chanse, then the secondary objective is to save the data.

Quarkzquarkz: I dont know which article are you talking about, you may give me a link of it. I have tried so many softwares, most from runtime's softwares.

ss202sl : It's really gone?! I have both of the drives, and it is not a physical damage, just the raid array is crashed, the HDDs are good.

If the raid 'just crashed' the powering down the Synology off and then back on should have caused it to reinitialize and resync the drives. If it couldnt do that then to me it does sound one of the drives is having an issue. What problem did the Synology software say it had with the drive?

Also using lots of software already may have cause problems already. What exactly have you done/tried because it sounds like you went ahead and formatted the drives in ubuntu

Lastly I dont think you understand raid0. It puts half of every file on one drive and the other half on the other drive. If you cant recover the raid there's no change of saving your data. Its like trying to put a puzzle together when half the pieces where in in your left pocket and the other pieces where in your right pocket... but the right pocket had a big whole in it and all the pieces are gone. There is no way to put the puzzle together anymore.
