hi, since i started playing crysis 3 and battlefield 4 i noticed that my fps would stray down to around 30 - 40 despite having an i5 3570k @ 3.4 ghz and SLI gtx 770 4gb. i believe it is my cpu that's the problem as it shows 3 of the 4 cores hitting 100% and the other at 99.5%. what can i do about this, please help, i spent some serious money on my computer and its not providing the results i hoped for. thankyou !

It has nothing to do with a single core not hitting 100%. Do you really think that an extra 0.5% will mean another 20 - 30 fps? If that's what 0.5% equated to then, assuming you had V-Sync on, you wouldn't even come close to using 100% CPU usage.

The first thing to do is ensure all your graphics drivers are up to date. Also, make sure SLI is actually turned on in the Nvidia Control Panel. Also, please provide your full specs. If neither of those provide a solution, go download MSI Afterburner and use the built in On Screen Display (OSD) while in game to monitor your GPU usage. One of your GPU's might be defective.

sorry, my full specs are :
gigabyte gtx 770 4gb sli
i5 3570k @ 3.4 ghz
8gb RAM
exremme 4 mobo
500gb harddrive

my drivers are fully up to date and sli is activated, i know 0.5% wont make a difference, what worried me is that my gpu's were not under max load like my cpu is

It could be that the game doesn't support SLI or that you need to update your graphics drivers. Try updating.

its crysis 3 which im sure supports sli also geforce experience says my drivers are up to date, this is pretty worrying

I look at it as your cpu needs to be over clocked. and with such big cards you shouldn't need to buy a second for sli. you have almost the best there is with one. aim for at least 4.5GHz. should give more frames.......... but be honest, even at 3.4 you don't get and dips/stutter/lag, anything............ what are more frames going to do for you?

I think you need to focus on why your CPU usage is so high, it shouldn't be pegged at 100% for those games like that and even with one 770 you should get better fps than 30-40. Either something is running in the background, your having driver issues, or the CPU is being throttled.

i have only fraps running in the background and aside from possible driver issues what can i do, is overclocking from 3.4 ghz the answer ?, what would you do, im out of my element here

It helps if you have a second monitor but what I would do is download CPUz and look at what is shows for your core clock while gaming. It should say 3.4GHz the entire time but keep an eye on it when you get these slow down moments, if it's going below 3.4 that is your problem.

Sometimes motherboards will come with some power saving feature or you may need to turn off speed step in the bios so it never throttles the CPU for power saving reasons. I would start there, I highly doubt that overclocking the CPU will make a difference, usually when you overclock past 3.4 you need to turn speed step off and if that is the problem it may appear that the overclock fixed the issue when really it was some under lying issue.

Make sure you have the latest chipset and GPU drivers.
