No fresh thermal paste, can I get away with not using any?

I just ordered a new cpu but forgot to order thermal paste. I was wondering if I could get away with not using any for a bit. I have a heat sink and fan and all that stuff. Just not the actual paste to put on the cpu. Will my temps be too hot? The cpu in question is the AMD FX 6300, using a standard cooler master fan and heatsink.

No you can't use an aftermarket heatsink without thermal paste. The direct contact might damage the cpu.

not if you dont want to cook your new cpu.most computer shops will have the heatsink compound.

something as cheap as thermal paste just run to best buy or circut city or something and grab a tube.

You always want paste, however if you bought a boxed CPU with fan it comes with paste applied to the cooler, which is in fact alright.
If you ordered aftermarket some come with a small tube.
Since it appears you have the cooler already and upgrading you will need paste.
Some retail stores (as much as I hate to say it) best buy carries Arctic Silver 5

I would say that is like asking if u need a mask when using a welding tool, of course you dont HAVE TO, but u will burn everything and get a lot of damage which u could avoid with a 8euro thermal paste

Kinda figured, I'll see if my RadioShack carries Arctic Silver 5. Online website says they do but you never know. Thanks a lot everyone.

Really any paste will do until you can order more, which you may not have to.

Checkout a local RadioShack, they may Arctic Silver 5 in stock. It just did a search using my zip code and a 2 mile search radius. There are 3 stores that has it in stock within 1 mile of me. It is currently selling for $10 + tax. AS5 maybe old, but it's still good.
