Hello, I have added a 5770 to my system and will have it dedicated to Scrypt mining. I heard that if you run multiple cards under a motherboard that does not feature a plug for additional power that you can melt your PCI slots.

Also, would you say a CX 750M will be sufficient for a 5770 + a 290X? I'm running it right now and it doesn't appear to be having any isssues... however this system will be ran 24/7 mining when not gaming.

Sorry for being a noob, I have never had more than one GPU in a system before.

Check that the PSU's intake and exhaust aren't clogged, that its fan is spinning properly and that its exhaust is not unreasonably warm. If everything seems fine, your problem is probably elsewhere.

At first I was thinking individual 12V rail overload but the CX750 is a single-rail design so that isn't it.

It would be useful to have more details about exactly what was going on in the seconds before it shutdown.

What about my PCI slots then? Will they be okay under stress 24/7?
