Hey, so i've had this PC for around 3 years now and its been used for gaming pretty much every single day since i got it roughly january 2010. Had beer spilt through the top of it causing it to not work for a couple of days ect ect. I'm really not that good with technical stuff (Hardware) of Pcs.

Which is why i bought my Alienware Aurora premade, which im wishing i didnt now. Anyway i'll post all my info in extreme detail below.

Solution
The GTX 680 or 670 have a slightly lower power requirement than the 780 or 770 and still perform well
I am not sure if the stock Dell part can be replaced with aftermarket as a drop in replacement so that would take some research on your end.
There are a few Dell 875 watt drop in units on eBay

Feel like a complete noob here, but what is the GPU? Is that a Graphics Card?

Oh okay, well i could give a new GPU a shot then. Ty for the help.

One last question about my CPU this time. Is it possible to just swap them out or is a new motherboard needed?

You may be able to use a socket 1156 I7-8xx series CPU Really would depend on several factors set in the Bios if the DELL board would support it.
When that machine was new if you wanted a I7 then the mother board would have been a p58 socket 1366
Did you see which Power supply you have

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's 525W.
http://www.hwcompare.com/980/radeon-hd-5870/ - My GFX Card says its 188 Watts compared to all the other new cards which seem to be 250 minimum.
Confused as to if i can get away with getting a higher Wattage card without it causing issues.

Would it be possible to replace my Current GPU with the GTX 780 Ti using my current 525W PSU? Or even the R9 290/290X. Have a £300-450 price range preferably.

EVGA recommends a 600 watt minimum power supply for the 780TI
There are some builds using micro cases with small built in power supplies running 780TI and Titans but I would not do it.
You may bottleneck the 780TI with your current CPU
Some power supplies may slightly degrade over time due to aging of the capacitors

Ah damn so il have to upgrade my PSU just to upgrade my GPU then unless you could suggest a GPU that would be safe to run with?

Awsome ty so much for your help, i'm gonna try and find a W299G PSU (the drop in 875 replacement for my pc) if not then some research on compatible aftermarket ones. Then sort the GPU out. Ty.
