I can turn the num lock on and off, but when it's on, only the 5 works. All the other keys still arrow, page up, etc. My laptop is brand new with Windows 8. Previously, all numbers worked except the 0. I've powered it down several times, but it doesn't help.
5 is the only number that works on my brand new windows 8 laptop keypad

You probably have received a faulty laptop. You said it was new so you should have no problem returning it.
