Hello,

So i am testing my CPU for DOA, and i have not bought a GPU yet. It may be a while before i am able to buy one.
CPU is an AMD FX-8320
MOBO is a Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 Rev. 4.0

So my original thought was that i can boot it, and get the confirming single beep when the system has passed the POST.

What i am getting is one long, and 3 short beeps, indicating there is no video present. which i was not expecting it to test for!

My question is this, If the CPU is bad, will the that be the first thing the results of the POST indicates, or is there a different "order of operations" (for lack of a better word) the POST executes?

My concern is it is seeing no video card present, and beeping that at me without testing the CPU at all.
I have no reason to suspect the CPU is bad, as i bought it new from newegg, and have yet to have a bad experience with them.

Thanks!

Hi, Yes, you need a discrete graphics card with that board and CPU.
As you can see, no video ports on the board's back I/O panel.
And no integrated with the FX 8320.

well that test proved 1 thing motherboards working perfectly lol as the fx 8320 has no graphics and neither does the board you will need a dedicated gpu for that.

So i won't know the status of the CPU until i complete the build?
Well, i hope it is in good shape then!
I won't fret too much, as the retailer has always been spot on for me.
Thanks for the replies as always!

exactly if you have ddr3 ram though and a old graphics card you could test it but until you have a dedicated card and ram etc you wont know if it works
