After putting in evga geforce gtx760 into the pci express slot on a msi z87-g55, before or after connecting it to the power supply, the computer will not even begin to power up. Fans will not even turn on. I have tried removing the video card and the computer will then power on and boot up normally. I can't figure out what the problem is. From what I have researched, they should be compatible.

Update: I have little experience with builds, as this is my first. I have no spare video card. What signs would there be of damage?

Update2: Thank you for the assistance, the problem turned out to be loose power connections to the motherboard. When I would put the card in, it would loosen the power supply, when I would take the card out I would push them back in, and it finally occurred to me to make sure they were secure after putting the card in. Just a rookie mistake I imagine this was, thanks again anyway.

Solution
Is your psu of decent quality with 500W and 2 6 pin pcie power connectors?
Are both connectors plugged into the GTX760?

Is the card inserted into the primary pciex16 slot?

Past that, I suspect it is RMA time for the graphics card
