I've recently been having problems running TF2 on my laptop. The FPS I get while I'm in game is good at first reaching 60-70 and then when I'm walking it suddenly goes down to 20-28, I don't understand what's causing this since my laptop never had this problem before. I tried lowering my settings but it still has the same problem.

My specs are Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210m CPU 2.50ghz / 6.00GB / 64bit OS, x64-based processor/ Intel HD Graphics 4000 / Windows 8 OS

When I first ran TF2 I got no trouble at all with FPS until recently, please help.

Solution
Did this occour after a recent update of TF2? If not then you could try to clear the game cache under "properties" in tf2 on your games library.

Here is a link to a TF2 script that i use: It disables many shadows and visual effects, but improves FPS ALOT, i'm running at 700-1000fps xD. https://chrisdown.name/tf2/

Download the zip and choose the one you like, like "high frames" or "max frames". Open it with a web browser, and copy paste the text into a "autoexec.cfg" in your cfg folder for TF2. REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE TEXT!

Run tf2 and see if you get more fps, you could also check for viruses or other programs that take up ram/cpu.

Ok I'll do that, what version of the config makes the game not look bad?

I could agree with this. Since you're using a laptop and your CPU/GPU under heavy load when playing games. It could indeed throttle.

It's not to uncommon with laptops.

I seemed to fix it by typing -autoconfig into the TF2 startup settings to reset my video settings, I also used your suggestion on clearing the game cache, I now play without random FPS drops and lag, thank you for your help.
