I want to build my own comp. and many tutorials are American, so American currency is used. I look these parts up on British retailers and they are almost always more expensive! Is this a thing or what? (note- i have been taking the exchange rate difference into account, still more expensive here..)

Yes....it's a thing ..... for whatever reason UK prices are high ..... and you also have a substantial VAT

I tend to hear that GPUs are heavily marked up compared to american prices although i'm not quite sure of the reason behind it. But in short yes they tend to be more expensive. The only reason I can think for this is (and this is a long shot) the instability if the euro or more then likely hardware manufacturers just charging you whatever they want because they know the competition will do the same.

not just UK - the entire planet outside of the USA is more expensive for electronics, clothing, cameras, cars, motorcycles...

Why go through all that hassle when you can buy brand new inside the USA - should've sold it there and bought a new one here

Please take my opinion with a grain of salt, but it feels like the nationality of the company that manufactures something is relevant to the price. For example, when I visit Europe I notice a lot of BMW's and Mercedes, while in the US those are considered luxury cars. Likewise, Intel is an American company and maybe you're paying the import premium? Again, I haven't studied the economics of computer parts, but it's just a thought.

It is a very hard brand to find in the southern part of the country, unfortunately.

would've still been cheaper for you to buy one in OK, TN or Missouri and ship it

It would had, however I was in a rush and didn't do my research. Either way it is a great bike same for all of the Triumph line up (had a speed triple when I was 15 and loved the hell out it). I do think we should stop talking about bikes, atleast here, its starting to take away from simsfan's question.
