I'm working on a PC build using an FX-6300 and I was going to use a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard since its got everything I really want. When looking on the page on GB's site it said that I would have to update the boards drivers for AM3+ CPUs to work (FX-6300 needs AM3+ socket). I have no other temporary cpu to put in to get the drivers needed. Is there a way to update it without a CPU, and if not can you guys recommend me a board? The things it needs to have are:
-4 RAM Slots (DDR3)
-GPU support (Crossfire would be nice but not needed)
-AM3+ socket that doesn't need updating
-My price range for MB is like $40-$70

Soon to be system specs:
AMD FX-6300
Not sure on MB
WD Caviar Blue 1TB storage
MSI R9 270 GAMING Edition
I've got 3 2Gb sticks of memory from an old pc (This is why I need 4 RAM slots)'
Corsair CX600 PSU
Fractal Design Core 1000 USB3
I salvaged a decent DVD drive from an old pc, and I will be running Windows 8

Any general advice is also welcome, budget is about $640, but the MB issue is main thing

(I am reposting this, I posted it a few hours ago and got no response, and I really need an answer)

Are you buying the board new? If so it should be loaded with the new bios, Gigabyte is good with that. Even then the Mobo should work with the CPU but it will say Unknown model. If you don't want to take the risk, I'd look into the ASRock 970 Extreme 3 mobo, cheap and works really well for the price tag its comes at.

I have the 78LMT-USB3 and no other processor to try this with (no post, no bios/flash screen at all with the 6300). Is there anyway to update the bios so that the AM3+ is picked up? I am at a stand still right now - have contacted Gigabyte but all the support is over seas (email only) no telling when they will get back to me. Any help soon would be nice...dead in the water.

I would of start by making a new thread so your problem gets spread around among the forums.

If I were you, I'd get a cheap AM2+ CPU and pop it in and update bios and send the CPU back. If you have friends with a AM2+ CPU ask if you can barrow it, It only takes like 20min to swap everything out.

I don't take any responsibility for buying off ebay, so buy at your own risk.

I found the issue, was a couple of bent pins on the CPU, was able to comb it out and get it in correctly - booted up and after a little setup was all running fine. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions - thinking of getting a few extras to keep on hand for testing should it come up again.

Thanks.
