My power supply has two cables: CPU1 which is a 4+4 pin, and CPU2 which is 8 pin. Does it matter which I cable I connect?

Does it matter which cable I connect into the ATX12V1? Talking about this:

Also, my 4+4 pin/8 pin isn't long enough to reach the connection, so I will need to buy an extension. Would this one be a good choice? http://www.amazon.com/CB-8P-Individually-Sleeved-Motherboard-Extension/dp/B0036ORCJY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1388803561&sr=8-2&keywords=atx12v+extension (picture of cable not reaching: http://i.imgur.com/VOJhben.jpg)

And as another side question, My motherboard has a 24pin connection. Does that automatically mean I use the whole 20+4 pin cable from my Power Supply? As in, the whole 20 pin part plus the 4 pin?

Any and all help is much appreciated. :)
