I don't have much knowledge on how the routers work and all so ill just give all the info I can and hopefully someone can help. So I live in a college residential community with 4 roommates. Our place uses att uverses 2wire 3801hgv modem/router. I just bought a buffalo airstation router (http://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-AirStation-Simultaneous-Wireless-WZR-1166DHP/dp/B00DJ6AGBU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1387237437&sr=8-2&keywords=Buffalo+AirStation%E2%84%A2+Extreme+AC+1750&tag=nvshield-20). Now all I did was plug a ethernet cable from the 2wire router to the buffalo router. I can connect to the buffalo fine and get in internet. My question is will the way its set up have any issues or interference. Do I need to do bridge mode and if so can someone explain exactly what that is or is it fine how it is. Mainly I just want to know how to get the most out of my buffalo router.

Bridge mode is a way of your ADSL router will act as a pass-through to your public IP address provided by your ISP while losing its routing and switching capabilities. By then, your Buffalo router will do the routing and switch functions as long as you set it up correctly.

Pretty much all modern ADSL modems have basic router capabilities built-in. The main reason to put them in bridged mode is because their built-in router or WiFi capabilities do not meet people's expectations/requirement.

There can be less conflicts between multiple pieces of hardware within your network when setting the modem to bridge mode, especially when it comes to IP addresses. There can also be an argument made that running your modem in bridge mode can make your connection run more efficiently, but in all honesty, this isn't going to be noticeable for most users.

So right now I've got it set up to detect a router behind a router. So now my buffalo handles everything and the 2wire is unusable. If a difference is hard to notice and since I have roommates would it possibly be better to just go back to not having router behind router detection on so they can use the 2wire router and I can use my buffalo all to myself or would that not really make a difference since their all sharing the same internet.
