My build currently has a
-intel core2duo E8400 3.00ghz
-2 gigs of ddr3 ram
-GTX 460

Currently games like Company of heroes 2, planetside 2, starcraft2 and the Witcher 2 seem to chug and slow at 1920x1080

So the question is if i replace the cpu to quad core will it drastically improve my performance?

Im thinking of getting the AMD FX-6300 FX-Series Six-Core Processor Edition with a motherboard under $200

Ill be keeping my GPU, if you guys have any other suggestions thanks!!!

^ Have you tried overclocking ??
The E8400 had a very good reputation of being great overclockers. Say a $30 aftermarket cooler should be able to get the CPU to say 3.5GHz+ easy. Actually 3.8+ is pretty much achievable.

Also another thing I see is the RAM. Even that much be causing the lag. So more RAM would be really advantageous.

hmm okay thanks for the help guys, i might just buy more ram see if there's any improvement.

Would buying a better GPU and more ram be a better option? instead of the CPU?

I have a FX 6300, 6gb DDR3 Ram, and EVGA GTX 460 in my rig and games play flawlessy at that resoulution. Besides $200 is enough to get you a great board with a fx 6300. Amazon got great deals.
Enjoy mate.
