Hello,

I have an Acer LCD monitor (AL2023W). Connected to PC with VGA cable.
No sound cable connected to the monitor

Two years after purchase, the monitor started to buzz.
If I switched off and on the monitor, the buzz used to disappear for a while (several hours) before reappearing.
Todays, the buzz reappear after few minutes (10-30min). Turning off/on the monitor gets rid of it temporarily.
I also notice that raping/knocking the monitor, gets rid of the buzzing temporarily.

My foundings:
- I modified the brightness/contrast... no success.
- the noise does not come from the speakers.
- I opened the monitor and visualy checked the components. None of the caps look bad (no burst, no leakage). No other components look damage.

So, could it still be a bad cap which does not look bad externaly? How could I find which one?

What other components could create this buzz (responding to power cycling and knocking)?

Thank you for your help

sounds to me like the power brick in the monitor is going bad (low ground like buzz). either that or the circuit that it sits on has a dry joint.
if your up to it and have a 15w soldering iron you may want to try heating up the joints that attach the components to the board. just turning the solder to liquid will get rid of any dry joints. but its a risk as you could potentially de-solder something and damage the board if your not careful.

I believe your monitor has a DVI-D connection and maybe try using that port instead of the VGA. (DVI is a cleaner, sharper picture anyways) If you do not have a DVI cable at hand maybe pick one up or order one like this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186011 . You might just need a new monitor or maybe you still have your 3 year warranty as back up, do not know if Acer provides that though. Good luck. :)

After further investigations, it is definitly not the power supply card nor the smaller card sitting next to it. The humming noise comes directly from the LCD panel, more precisely from its bottom (the electronic signals being connected to the panel top). I dismantled it but could not find anything interesting, only multilayers of sheets. So I guess, the noise comes from the backlight bulb (which I could not find).
So i guess I won't be able to fix it myself.

Treat yourself to a new LED monitor. :) If you need suggestions I'll post some decent affordable monitors.
