Hi there

Just got a new pc and im wanting to install a graphics card for gaming - just a casual gamer really. I've never done it before so i haven't got a clue - thinking i need something like a gtx 650 single slot. I know i need a new power supply and i'm pretty confident i can do that after reading various threads. No idea looking at the machine where the graphics card will go, it currently has integrated intel 2500 graphics. The motherboard is a gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 DVI. After taking the back off i have no idea where a graphics card would go, i'm thinking its the blue slot as shown on the image? Any help would be appreciated.

Yep, you're right its the blue slot-- that is a PCIe x16 slot, which is used by 95% of all graphics cards.

Can you tell me a bit more about your system and what games you want to play? Then I can help you find what you need!

Useful info would be, your processor and what kind of RAM you have, how much you have. (When I say what kind of ram I mean, DDR3 or DDR2)

Hey, you were right. The space for the graphics card is the long blue slot with the little latch.

It's fairly simple to add a new GPU, unscrew any case covers at the back(usually a piece of metal that covers where a Graphics cards outputs would be)
Slide in the New card, ensure it clips in with rhe latch.
Plug it into the power supply and away you go.

Note, If you're looking at a 650 also have a look at a 7770 (similar price with 7770 slightly better performance but depends on country really)

Thanks for your quick reply

Looking to play skyrim, maybe some of the newer games that will be coming out like thief 4 etc - not bothered about really high resolution as long as it works half decent. The ram is 16gb ddr3, Intel Core i3-3240 3.0GHz Dual Core Processor, I'm guessing i will need a single slot card? - as there is only one slot there!!

Will it be easy enough to install the card from what you can see?

What would your recommendation be for a power supply to suit my needs?

Thanks again

Where are you from Sparky? It'll help us make recommendations.

I think something like a corsair 500w builder series would be fine, maybe even the 430w version.

Installing a card> Easy as hell and you can find instruction tutorials on youtube etc.

Loads of cards are Single Slot so no need to worry about that.
