Classic mistakes that I might make when assembling my first PC

Thought it would be better to ask this now, what are some mistakes that I might make, that might not pose a threat to the system, but will end up in it not working.

Is there any power cables that are easy to forget about, or things I will inevitably install wrong.

Thanks and wish me luck

Ground yourself before handling electronic components - static kill electronics.
Before installing the heatsink ensure any protective plastic is removed from the processor and heatsink block - not doing this can lead to high processor temperatures.
Make sure the aux power connection to the motherboard and any graphics cards are made and secure - if it's not powered it doesn't boot.
If installing multiple hard drives then only connect your OS drive, install your OS, then connect your other hard drives afterwards - this forces Windows to install the boot manager onto your OS drive.

Hope this helps :)
