System configuration:
ASROCK z87 fatality killer mb
i7 4770k
AMD R9 290
Huntkey X7900W PSU

System was working fine before graphics card installation, had installed debian.. After connecting the graphics card it gave 5 beeps, no post - so removed it and changed the bios setting to boot from onboard graphics.. then connected the graphics card again, system boots - So installed the driver and on reboot display went blank.. Thought the problem is with debian so tried Ubuntu 12.04, same results.. Now tried changing the bios display setting to pci, now again 5 beeps and no post, no display.. Not sure if the graphics card is at fault because after installing the driver in ubuntu/debian it displayed the device details correctly.. PSU has been rma'd once as with the old one there was no post with even breadboard setup.. so not sure what is the issue.. I don't have any spares to try out either.. Any tips greatly appreciated.. thanks

Edit: added PSU model

PSU is Huntkey X7900, 80 plus silver rated..

The link you gave is for new builds that failed to boot, this works and boots into Ubuntu if I just remove the graphics card or set the bios to boot from onboard graphics.

That kind of indicates that graphics card is the problem, but the graphics card details (like model.no etc, the installed driver is generic) are getting displayed correctly in Ubuntu with lspci, lshw.. Is there anyway to make sure that the issue is with graphics card before I send it for rma?

never heard of the PSU before

maybe it sounds harsh, but i can see 2 potential problem :
#1 maybe the GPU is defected. try RMA it
#2 maybe it is the PSU problem, for your own sake, always use well-known major brand : ANTEC, CORSAIR, SEASONIC, XFX
we usually dont trust the quality of PSU outside those brand

Have raised request for RMA, just to make sure is there any setting in bios probably that could be causing this? Should I try a bios upgrade?

That PSU had good review in hardwaresecrets.com, and also the price was same as corsair 850 TX (non modular, this one is modular) so went for it.. Have already replaced it once (first one even cpu fan didn't spin).. one build so many issues..
