Hello all,

I am looking for a monitor for my PC, which has a 770 in it. I was looking for a 120Hz/144Hz monitor, but they are just too expensive and the colour reproduction isn't great on TN panels.

So now I'm looking at IPS panels with 5ms response times, and saving some money. I'm looking at 3 in particular:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-23EA63V-23-inch-1920-Monitor/dp/B00BJHBUW0/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1388859442&sr=1-4&keywords=IPS

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VS239HR-23-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B008J77QQM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1388858493&sr=8-5&keywords=asus+IPS

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00D6L4Y9I/sr=8-2/qid=1388858493/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1388858493&seller=&sr=8-2

I'm a fan of ASUS displays, but the LG is too cheap to ignore. I was wondering what the difference is between the 3, and since the VX239H is an AH-IPS panel, will there be a noticable improvement over the other two?

Thanks in advance :D.

Fair enough, thanks for the advice :) I'll have a look at Samsung.

So there is no difference between AH-IPS and normal IPS?

There is no such thing as normal "IPS" they use this just to generalize so it does not confuse the buyer. Every manufacturer will choose a variation of IPS whether if it is H-IPS, AH-IPS, S-IPS,bla bla bla... More or less they will all give you the same end result and is really not something for the end buyer to even think about because technically none of them are superior over another. Any monitor using IPS is a good choice though. :) Out of the options you supplied us with I would choose the IPS LG or the Asus VX239H. They are both equally matched with quality features and are both stunning to the eye with their slim bezels. The LG does have more reputation than the ASUS though, so the LG may be an easier buy since more buyers have given their reviews and thoughts on the monitor, so you can base your decision if you think it is a reliable monitor. I read a few reviews and the seems like the customers were satisfied with it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. So is there any way of telling what variant of IPS is being used in the panel? Just seems a bit odd to me that the company would 'disguise' what type of panel they are using, but I'm sure they're just trying to make things easier to digest for the end consumer.

The VX239HR looks the same spec for spec as the VX239H but it doesn't have speakers, which going by everything I've heard is no loss whatsoever :D.

I know that the LG is their high end 23" and is on cutback but I've had a few ASUS monitors in the family and they are all fantastic. I'm still unsure; given the prices and specs if it was your call which would you choose? The LG?

Thanks again.

Well like I said, they are not trying to hide what variation of IPS panel they provide you inside the monitor, they feel it is unnecessary for the buyer because you and I would never be able to tell the difference between what type of IPS they put inside anyways. Integrated speakers are more of a convenience, but not something I would use for gaming, listening to music, or watching movies. The speakers should not be a concern to you if you already have good headphones or speakers already. LG seems to just have more reviews and not enough proof of people actually saying the ASUS is a good monitor. I see a lot of happy people with the LG purchase though, so LG will be a much secure purchase. Hope this helps
