Overclocking fx8350 from 4.0 to 4.5 worth ?

I'm asking because I have Evo212 but with only one fan. If I buy second one and I buy bigger case with one more fan on case and I'm able to OC this on 4.5 is it really worth ? How much performance boost we are talking about here ?

Solution
Performance increase depends on the specific game.

Below is ARMA 3. As you can see, there is a 4FPS gain in performance with a GTX Titan. Going from 4.0GHz to 4.5GHz (12.5% OC), that gives you a little over an 8% increase in performance. Not bad.

However, for a game like Metro Last Light the gain in performance would be less; only 3%.

Hitman: Absolution is kinda similar to Metro Last Light from a system requirement / performance point of view. The 12.5% OC...

Honestly if you feel its worth extra time and hassle then yes but when overclocking it doesn't matter if you have an aftermarket heatsink or not you need great airflow in your case to get full performance out of your PC and to be honest 4.0ghz is pretty good and its only if you really want to play extremely demanding games at full settings that you require to overclock your CPU.

I'm with really crappy case right now without any fans beside one on evo212. I'm ordering tomorrow Thermaltake V3 Black Edition (50$) which is much better and I will install another fan on evo212, one is already in case and I will buy another one. I will see how to place everything for better cooling system and hopefully I will achieve 4.4 - 4.5 with good voltage.

Maybe I can get some better answer here since I have this thread up and running.

I wanted to buy Thermaltake V3 Black Edition case but it's out of stock and I need to complete this in next 2 days since I will need to continue my constant work on PC so I went for this one.

And I currently have this crapp

To be honest I'm worried about my Evo212. On this current "Industrial Gemini" he is literally touching my side case and maybe pushing side for 1mm which is really terrible but I measured my dimensions of case and it's 18.4cm.

On Thermaltake Versa G2 which I'm getting in 2 days according to newegg dimensions are 429 x 196 x 481 (42.9 x 19.6 x 48.1) which is bigger by 1.2 cm. Will my Evo 212 block space for cooler on my case or it's going to be fine ? And are those dimensions actually right ? Hopefully that case is fine for current configuration with approx 3 case coolers and maybe for later upgrade.

UPDATE: I found this picture and it's giving me nice example of what should I plan to do.

Since I'm getting 1 cooler with case I will place that one on number 1 spot. They are out of stock for Arctic F12, 120mm coolers but I will in like 10 days get 3 more for number 5, number 3 and number 2 but only one cooler at spot 2, one closer to the front side. Is that good enough ?

SimCity 5 is a very CPU demanding game, therefore it benefits a lot from overclocking. The below chart shows that going from 4.0GHz to 4.5GHz will give you a 4 FPS performance increase. That is a little over 11% performance gain with a 12.5% overclock.

Last is BioShock. This games is not very CPU dependent at all making the playable by a lot of people (from a CPU standpoint). You are basically getting an extra 1.5% performance. What is interesting is that the charge also includes "Frame Time". Unfortunately, they don't really bother telling you what that means.

Frame Time is basically how long each frame is displayed on the screen in milliseconds (ms). It looks strange because the frame time increases when the FPS increase. It should actually decrease, not increase since the more frames are displayed per second the less time each frame should be displayed on the screen.

Anyways I went for this and looks like that I have one big adventure in front of me.

So as It's in my description I have Asus M5 A97 R2.0 which is not the best mobo for overclocking but it should be possible. I'm afraid of my PSU since it's Raidmax 635w 80% bronze (if that actually means something).

I'm able after couple hours of testing to run on 4.5 with 1.452 voltage. Issue is that when I start Prime my cores are stopping and after third I'm getting restart with temperature near 65 (on cores), while after 1 hour of DayZ and one hour of Battlefield 4 cpu isnt going over 46c. Idle is 23c while I'm working with usuall softwares can jump until 28/30c.

My question is next. Can any component be in danger if I dont push over 1.452 and I dont run Prime test ? Beside restarts can that actually hurts to CPU or my motherboard ? Voltages seems fine so I doubt that PSU can die due to that, after all 1.452 isnt really crazy voltage.
