CPU for game programming and game design???

Solution

Is there a budget? If Not, I'd recommend the 4930k, easily able to overclock and takes on anything.

Something with multiple cores to handle a lot of threads, doing simultaneous tasks is very heavy on a CPU, so maybe something like one of AMDs FX cpus. Though, Intel's newer cpus have hyperthreading, which virtually doubles the number of threads that a 4-core can handle.

Really, I would choose something for Intel. In my opinion, they're quicker on the job.

I'm just gonna add here quickly, it depends what type of games, and if your wanting them to run on just pc, or say PS4. Console's use slow 8 core cpus. If so, an AMD cpu would be the way to go.

You're right haha, though the 4930k is only rated a little lower and for half the price so I believe you've made a great decision.

Cool. Good luck with all that. C# is easy if your already a java coder. Maybe let us know of your projects when you have some.

Its not a big deal tbh. Just the new consoles go for more threads on more cores, over less but more powerful cores like intel.
Mobile phones are usually dual core (snapdragon and the like).

And the new AMD 6 and 8 core cpus are up there with the i5 for gaming performance. Its your call really depending on your style of programing. Unity 4+ and the like will make good use of multi thread for consoles, and scale as needed for mobile and pc.
