I got a recent upgrade to my motherboard and also increased the amount of ram from 8 to 16 and the system seemed tow work fine until lit started up and told me that my system needed to be repaired because it was missing a certain file from system 32. I can't open windows when ever I get to the startup screen for windows after multiple attempts I can't do anything even launch in safe mode! Ive tried launching with the 64 bit disk tried booting from everything avalible in my bios mennu and now Im out of thing to try. Can any one please help me I really hate this problem.I was able to get to windows once and thought I was out of the wood so they deactivated my pc later on and then the problem came back. (Note again I cant do anything with windows it will just take me to a light blue screen saying that I need to repair my pc and a file from system 32 is missing.)

Unfortunately you might be stuck with doing a Refresh, or (hopefully not) Reset via those repair tools. If necessary, remove the drive from the computer as is, and connect it to another computer so you can back up any data you need before doing the Refresh or Reset.

If you do not have another computer available, but you do have another hard drive where critical data can be stored, download a copy of Ubuntu Linux, burn it to a DVD (or extract it to a flash drive if you have one) and boot from it. It will load a temporary copy of Ubuntu, which can read NTFS volumes. You can use that to read and copy your data.

Of course, if you do not have any crucial data on this system, or if you have already done a backup, don't worry about...
If you boot from your Windows 8 install disk again, go into the Repair tools and run the automated repairs. It should generate a log file that can help us figure out exactly what file is missing, even if the repair wizard can't fix the problem itself.

If you do not have another computer available, but you do have another hard drive where critical data can be stored, download a copy of Ubuntu Linux, burn it to a DVD (or extract it to a flash drive if you have one) and boot from it. Of course, if you do not have any crucial data on this system, or if you have already done a backup, don't worry about downloading Ubuntu, and go ahead with the Refresh or Rest right away.

Refresh will reinstall Windows 8 on the drive over top of the existing install, and will keep your files (documents, pictures, etc. in specific folders on the drive), but any installed apps, as well as applications (there is a difference in the context of Windows 8 and 8.1) will need to be reinstalled once the Refresh is complete.

A Reset on the other hand will not keep any of your data, and will wipe out your existing apps and applications.
