Hello there.

This morning I used my computer with no problems then shut it off. I did not install anything or do anything out of the ordinary. When I got back from work it began having this issue. I can start it up and it boots fine until I pass the "Windows Starting" screen. Then it just goes black rather than continue to the login screen. I tried giving it a while but no luck. I could still boot into safe mode so I tried disabling all but the necessary start up options. No luck there. I tried removing a stick of RAM and then the other to see if either one had gone bad. No luck.

Finally, I tried using Lenovo One Key recovery to revert to initial settings.

Still the problem persists, only now I can't even get into safe mode as Windows cant do it's initial setup in safe mode.

Any ideas as to what my problem might be?

Solution
Hey all. Sorry for the late response, I ended up without computer access for a bit.

Anyways, after much work I found that the problem is my video card. When I disable it everything works fine but as soon as I enable it I experience the black screen on start up. It is not a driver issue as I have a clean windows 7 install and new drivers. I guess my best bet is to try re-seating the video card. (If that is even possible on the y560)

Anyways, thanks for the help.

Do you have a Windows disk that will allow you to do a repair instead of a recovery. The difference should be that a recovery may only reset all system variables to original status, where a repair will actually re-install all system files. I am guessing that you have a major corruption on your HD.
Other option is if you can remove the HD and install it in another PC, you could use the other os to simply scan the HD for errors and fix them.
Open the drive in my computer - right click - Properties>Tools>error-checking>(check both boxes) Automatically fix file system errors AND Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. These two choices are the standard choices in windows for disk repair. It takes a long time!

I was looking on Lenovo's site and there may be a solution for you, if you can use the F11 key to get to what they call the predesktop area ( BIOS ? ). Anyway, try these instructions to see if this helps. If you can't then see if you can contact them regarding whether or not you need a specific Windows ( some branded laptops have mildly customized versions of Windows ) for your machine or if any Windows 7 disc will work as a standard repair file.
Do you have another computer or a friend with a PC? If your friend doesn't want you opening up his/her computer, you can put your HD in a cheap generic external enclosure, hook it up to the other machine and go to Disk Manager, just to see how many partitions you actually have. You may have two hidden partitions, a small 100MBish boot partition and another 20 to 30 GB partition for the system restore. If any other partitions are there but they seem to be unformatted, they may be corrupted. They should show up here even though they won't show up in Windows "My Computer". At that point you'll better know what you have on your HD and then try the OS disk repair too.
