I have a hp p6674y with the amd phenom 2 820 quad core processor. 14 gb crucial memory. I upgraded the memory to this. I got a amd phenom 2x4 960t processor, black edition for a cpu change, and amd black edition fan . when I changed it out and powered it up it would not power up. it would start then kick its self off??? what could be the problem here?? im not computer person. this is my first change. I read the specs and thought this cpu would work. Did I miss something. Any advice would be greatly appericated

Well HP lists all 95watt x4s and x6s to work with that model, but that specific x4 is a thuban based x4 and they list deneb x4s but thuban is just the x6 naming as the 960t has two possible good cores disabled but the board may require a bios update or the cpu is dead. First off would contact hp about compatibility and a bios update and then worry about the cpu possibly being dead.

Also the 960t unless u were looking to unlock cores is not a real good upgrade, the 820 is only 200mhz slower in which isnt a huge boost, so it be worth to return the 960t as that board probably doesnt support core unlocking. Best upgrade would be the 95watt x4 955 @3.2ghz or a x6 1065t @2.9ghz for that board.
