Hello all..

So I'm having some issues which I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with. There are several topics like mine but none of them provide troubleshooting which has lead to a solution for me.

So the issue is.. I was using an EVGA GeForce GTX 660 without issue, but decided to upgrade. Originally I bought the NVidia GTX 770, but when I went to install it, i discovered my PSU wasn't cutting the mustard(it was only pushing 32A on the +12v Rail and 770 needs a min of 40A). I can't afford to upgrade both the GPU and PSU currently, so instead, I swapped out the 770 for the EVGA GeForce GTX 760, and with the difference from that, also bought a new PSU - the Corsair CX750M which pushes 62A on the +12v rail, so more than sufficient.
However, when I boot my system up, I get a standard POST beep, but instead of seeing my BIOS splash screen at full resolution like usual, it is only taking up half of the display, and it just stays there for a long time, and while doing so, every 20ish seconds I get what sounds exactly like my POST beep, 1 beep only. If just let it go, eventually the screen goes away, but then I just get a blank black screen with a blinking underscore in the top left corner, and no matter how long I leave it sitting, nothing happens.
If instead of letting it sit, I try to enter my BIOS settings or the Boot Menu (Delete or F12 respectively), the screen responds and says "Please Wait..." but nothing happens, again.

Looking through the forums and seeing people with similar issues, several things were recommended, all of which I followed:

Updated BIOS to the latest available version from the MFG. website
Checked my PSU 6pin/8pin connections
Attempted to plug in 6pin/6pin instead of 6pin/8pin
Completely removed my old display drivers(despite this issue occurring before drivers even load, just something to try)
Updated chipset drivers for my CPU

I tried just unplugging my HDMI cable from the GPU, and plugged it into my onboard MOBO HDMI port, and when I try to boot, I get no display and the GPU beeps repeatedly. So I removed the GPU completely, and without it in place, the system boots completely fine, not a single problem to be seen (so obviously the GPU is the component causing the problem)

The BIOS update that I performed was done via a .bat within Windows, so I'm not sure if that didn't perform a proper flash, so I tried it twice with no luck. I cant seem to find any info on how to flash this MOBO via USB, which is probably the only thing I haven't tried at this point.

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me track down what might be going on here, and any/all advice is greatly appreciated.

My system specs are as follows:

System Manufacturer: Gateway
System Model: DX4870
BIOS: BIOS Date: 05/07/12 15:55:05 Ver: 04.06.05
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
PSU: Corsair CX750M 750W

I bought the system pre-made from Best Buy, then just upgraded the RAM, PSU, GPU..so I'm not sure if maybe its just a shitty board that I'm using which will not support the new GPU, but considering I ran the GTX 660 without an issue I hope thats not the case.

Hi, Try testing the card in a different PC and see if working.
If yes, then it might be a BIOS issue (not supporting the graphics card).

Hi Alex

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I don't have but the 1 desktop PC to try this card on. I'm sadly probably just going to assume it's not compatible because I'm using a Shitty acer motherboard and return the card to go back down to the 660. :(

Yes, it seems it's the only option then.

i know its a simple thought , but is your old card dx10 and your new one dx11? does your operating system support it?

The RAM is exact same manufacturer and module 1x 4gb and 1x 2gb. .I tried to have just the 1 module and still didn't get anywhere. I also flashed the BIOS to the latest version for sure and still had no luck. The old card is almost identical to the new one just with faster clock speeds..gtx660 to gtx760. I swapped back to my old card and it's working without a problem so it seems my board just doesn't support the newer chip.

Yeah I tried with the 770 and the exact same thing happened as what's happening with the 760...my board just doesn't seem to support anything newer than the 660 which is working perfectly.

If your board is using an EFI BIOS, you may have to go in and enable Legacy ROM, I had to...for some reason my new card wouldn't work where the old one would.
