Hi There!

I am slowly upgrading my computer and I was wondering if my current PSU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=17-371-...

Antec Earthwatts EA-650 would power a R9 280x.

My spec with the card would be:

Amd 8350 / Hyper 220
Gskill 2 * 4gb sticks
500gb hdd

Thanks!

Yes it will, but maybe not if you overclock. Your PSU's quality is pretty low

Good deal! I thought it might be just fine without Oc'ing. I find it weird that a lot of websites state that a 750W is recommended for a 280x.

AMD states what's more than required in case you buy a lousy PSU that doesn't actually provide what it's supposed to.

That 650 watt PSU would be okay unless you overclock or have too many other devices.

The card itself draws about 250 watts which equates to about 21 Amps on the 12v rail. But You will obviously need more current on the 12v rail to power the rest of your system.

That PSU has 3 rails and it's combined amperage is about 48 amps so everything should be fine.

This PSU definitely generates enough power, but the multirail design does complicate things somewhat. The power distribution is less efficient than single rail. If the CPU or GPU pull too much off of their respective rails, over current protection could shut the system down. Even if the other rail has power to spare.

The good news is that if it doesn't work, all it will do is turn the system off. So if you own the psu already, there is no reason not to try.

It should work, no need to worry

Hi - chimera is correct - no problem. And, it is not a low quality PSU. Got a 9 (out of 10) from
jonnyguru.

You can OC if you wish, you have +12v amp headroom.
