What I'm looking for:

- Build thats stronger than the current consoles(PS4/XB1) right now

- Upgradable with little problems

- Can handle most, if not all current PC games at high/max settings. 1080P

- Can handle Video editing/rendering ala programs like Sony Vegas Pro 12 with little issues. Basically, render videos fast, very very fast

- Will last a good amount of years(3-5 b4 worrying about upgrading)

- Option of overclocking

- Will be much stronger than my Lenovo Y580 which has a GPU: GTX660M, and CPU: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM (2.40GHz 6MB Cache)

- Spending between $800- $1,100 more or less

Questions:

1. IS this a great build for what I'm looking for?

2. Is there anything I should switch out? For the motherboard, is an MSI good? Or are there other brands that I should get instead for a MSI Z87? Are there any products in particular i'm overpaying for, that i could get with a different brand at a cheaper/more reliable price?

3. Anything else I should take into account before ordering these parts in late january/early . February? This is my first PC part picking, and will be the first time I ever build a PC. any chance of any good deals around late jan-early-mid February?

You don't need an i7, an i5 is just as good for gaming and will save you a bunch of money. Your motherboard is an LGA1150 socket, so you will have less choices if you plan on upgrading your CPU. Get some nicer Corsair RAM. If you cut down on all of these things, you won't lose any quality in your PC, it will be better, and you can also probably upgrade your GPU to a GTX 780. I will fix it

I cut down on a few things which actually made your PC better, and it costs less. Since the price went down a bit I upgraded you to a GTX 770 with 4GB GDDR5 instead of 2GB.

Saved you $38 and your PC is great!

It will be able to handle all games at High/Max settings smooth and beautifully.

he quite clearly states video editing so having an i7 becomes worth it and he will be gaming at 1080p so getting a 4gb version won't do much for him.

hyperthreading won't decrease performance(and even if it does u can disable) it won't help much beyond a few games at this point but it will help significantly in video editing areas which he states he wants done fast, so u go for the i7 because of that reason

also that powersupply is properly overkill a 650watt should be more then enough(i know the GFX says 700 iirc)

Definitely. If you need it for Video Editing then get it. The performance decrease (if there is one) won't really be noticeable since you will have a great computer overall.

What I have just picked out for you is close to perfection, no skimping on the quality. This build will be as near silent as you can get without spending ridiculous money, this build will also be almost as compact as a console while kicking their asses 10 fold, stick it pretty much where ever you want, hook it up to your tv throw it in your entertainment stand just like you would a console, it should fit. oh and grab yourself a wireless xbox 360 controller for pc and sit back and a external dvd drive to install that windows, I have most of the same parts in my current build and I can say it is BY FAR my favorite build ive ever done. I went through alot of research and exchanging of other parts to get this just right lol.

@zemiak, he will need an i7 as he wants to do video editing and rendering.

I know this is a bit over your $1,100 budget but it is worth the extra money. An SSD makes your computer experience much, much better (i know from personal experience, just installed my first ssd and it makes my computer very pleasurable to use due to the almost instant program launch times etc.) I know you want to make it last for 3-5 years, but you cant really every future proof with computers as every year, there are major advancements. If anything, the below build is very respectable and considered pretty strong for todays standards and it will serve your well for awhile. If you need to make it cheaper, drop the ssd and get it later.

Any ram is fine, you only really need to be picky if your overclocking ram.

No overclocking option but you get the 8 threads needed for video editing + 16gb of ram + a SSD for a boot and fast loading of your programs

yeah if your doing video editing I like Volvodotos build, but if it were me I'd change the motherboard for an itx board with wireless built in, and the case for a fractal node 304 (can't beat it trust me), and that western digital blue for a seagate 7200 hard drive ( I've had a western digital blue and their kind of noisey and you have no control over it because they locked the aam)
