My rig:
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster B1930(18.5")
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance(2x4GB)
Processor: Intel core i5 760 (2.80Hz)
PSU: iBall Marathon 500W

I am currently using a nvidia 8400gs 512MB(ASUS) card, which I wish to upgrade(finally!)

But I have to keep an upper limit on the budget, around 6,000 INR. SO please suggest me the best card for my PC under 6000 INR(Indian Rupee)

I was thinking about nvidia 630
http://www.flipkart.com/asus-nvidia-gt-630-2-gb-ddr3-graphics-card/p/itmdap2gcyj9gqsf?pid=GRCDAZSRHHZFPU9S&otracker=from-search&srno=t_5&query=nvidia+630&ref=48f93bb0-abd7-403d-9fcf-9f577870925d

Somebody told me that going beyond 2GB for 1366x768 resolution monitors is a waste of money so I chose this as a good buy. Though a friend of mine also said that the nvidia 6x series is not as good as the predecessor 5x one and should go for amd ones. Thus I was quite unsure what to look for and a local store suggested me gt630.

Would be so cool if they didn't impose the import duties in my country on EVERYTHING :(

R7 240 would be much better, and it has gddr5 memory while the gt 630 has gddr3

But if you can stretch your budget

You should go with the gddr5 R7 240. GDDR5 has more memory bandwidth than GDDR3, and besides, the R7 240 is a bit faster than the gt 630, and don't worry about the extra memory as that wont make any difference. The memory speed is more important

Your psu is more than enough for either of those cards

So I should go for a 1GB version or 2GB one? Can;t see the gddr5 version on online stores, will have to search the market for that. Online stores in India are offering gddr3 only. So I just want to be sure of the things I should look for in the market. And what make should I consider? Asus/MSI/Gigabyte/ZOTAC/Sapphire/EVGA, etc?
And for the psu part, I wanted to ponder upon the number of connectors(since I use 8400, & you know how cool it is no requirement of extra power cords! :D So I am not sure if the ones you suggesting be needing them)

Your PSU, even if a noname iBall PSU, should support any of the above cards.
The 7750 is the best card you can possibly get, even if it's 7200(base price).

Also I'd suggest you NOT to go for a 2GB card under any circumstances.
Even the fastest card you can get, the 7750, will not use the extra gigabyte of RAM.
How much are you able to stretch your budget?
Your 8400gs is equivalent to the 210, which is a joke.
Even the new card you'll get will be a bottleneck for your CPU.
If you can save up and get something along the lines of a 660, do so.

660? O_O Whoa man! You want me to stretch my budget atlest thrice?! thanks for the suggestion , but seriously I cannot think about going beyond 6000 INR since I have that budget for my GPU since last year :/ Still couldn't stretch it, so I cannot think about going beyond 6k even now. So I would be quite happy to find the best thing for my rig under 6k(believe me, I had 5k on my mind, but well I already extended it to 6k, can't go beyond)

Then you should settle for a 6670 or 7750.
No offence man, but your PC is either not for gaming, or poorly planned.
The i5-760 is a pretty decent processor. Pairing it with a 8400gs is a bad idea.
The 8400GS consumes only 40W and the cards posted above only upto 50-60W. Why did you get a 500W PSU?
Still, if you can spend upto 8-8.5k for a 650Ti or 7770, get those cards.

None taken! I know how well the shopkeeper fooled me in 2011 when I bought this PC I am talking about. All I knew back then was, nVidia coupled with 512MB/1GB is the best thing you can have for graphics, LOL! Though I still don't know much about graphic cards, that's why I am always confused when I think about changing that 8400gs.
And why I bought 500W PSU? I was thinking about buying nvidia 550 last year before I came to know that it was an 'out-of-budget' thing for me. I had some Intex PSU before that which I was pretty sure will burn out if I tried a new graphic card on my system, so I upgraded my PSU much before I started researching about the graphic cards.

That is a far too common problem here in India.
I was also fooled into getting a Odyssey PSU and Geforce 210(same as the 8400GS in terms of performance). I later researched and found out which card I should have gotten in May of 2008 with my PC which turned out to be the 8600GTS, that is atleast 3x as powerful as the 210(which was purchased over 3 years later!) The 210 is still at the same price as it was in 2011 whereas the cards like the AMD HD7770 have dropped $60 from the time it launched in Feb 2012.
