My friend wants to have a build for pc gaming, his budget is under £900, though unnecessary costs are preffered. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. He requires windows and a monitor.
I have come up with this:
CPU Intel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz Quad-Core £163.34
Motherboard Asus H87-PLUS ATX LGA1150 £74.90
Memory Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £64.17
Storage Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM £42.00
Video Card MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB £189.99
Wireless Network Adapter TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 £25.98
Case Fractal Design Core 3000 USB 3.0 (Black) ATX Mid Tower £58.78
Power Supply Corsair 500W ATX12V £46.57
Optical Drive LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer £14.89
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) £72.59
Monitor LG 23EA63V-P 23.0" £119.98
Total: £873.19

Cool, then your friend is pretty much set I think. Good luck!

There are cheaper Optical Drives, I've got mine for £11 and it works superbly. Also, if your friend is willing to have a 21.5" monitor instead of a 23" monitor, there is the: LG 22EA53VQ 60Hz 21.5" Monitor. This is exactly £100 and it is brilliant.

I'll ask him if he would rather have a 21.5" monitor, for the optical drive, I went with lg because I knew I could trust them

My optical drive is manufactured by Samsung, and products made by them really work well.

sure, I'll check some out, is there anything else about the build that you suggest I should change

You might not need a wireless network adapter, which will save you £25. Also, you may be able to downgrade the video card to a GTX 660 and you will save around £30-£40.

I'd say stick with the GTX 760 since it's significantly better than the 660. Most games can be maxed out at 50+ FPS at 1080p.

I agree, is there anything here that you would change

I would rather keep the 760 as it is not that much more expensive, and it actually replaces the 660ti, making it very strong for the price, also I need a wireless adapter as my friend won't be using ethernet

To be completely honest I'm not that technical and have only done some research on this forum and other websites because I myself built a PC last week. It's quite similar to your build except I had a little more money to spend because I already have a monitor and OS. I've gone for a gtx780 and an Asrock z87 extreme3 motherboard. If you plan on overclocking at all and maybe go SLI in the future, a Z87 motherboard is better. If you do, you should also select the i5 4670k version in stead of the non-k since that one doesnt allow overclocking. Also, if you do plan on going SLI, you'd need more power. Maybe a 650W PSU would suffice. But when you do overclock you would also need a CPU cooler. The Cooler Master hyper 212 Evo is the one that everyone recommends on this forum, and the one I've went with as well. Only when you plan on doing any of these, change your build. Otherwise it's quite good I think. BTW, I'm also new to this all so don't rely 100% on me haha. I'm just making sense of everything I read up on the last few weeks. With all this overclocking and such you would probably go over budget so I think this build is perfectly fine.

Edit: I've read up some more, and a H87 motherboard is perfectly capable of SLI, so if there are any plans for your friend going SLI in the future, you'd only need a bigger PSU! Here's a link that might help: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Z87-H87-H81-Q87-Q85-B85-What-is-the-difference-473/

He's not planning on sli, and he will not really be overclocking, so I made the build around that.

That's a perfect build! You can still also OC by ~200MHz with the non-k version.
